Information about Ealing Common
Ealing Common is a station on the Uxbridge branch of the Piccadilly Line, and on the Ealing Broadway branch of the District Line, in Travelcard Zone 3. To the east, the next station is Acton Town. Westbound the next station is North Ealing on the Piccadilly Line. On the District Line the next station westbound is Ealing Broadway, although until the 1930s the Metropolitan District Railway operated trains to South Harrow and Uxbridge over what is now the Piccadilly Line.
The station was opened on 1 July 1879, and known as Ealing Common and West Acton between 1886 and February 1910.
It is the only station where District and Piccadilly line trains call at the same platforms in normal operation - at the other staions on the shared route there are separate platforms (at Acton Town and between Turnham Green and Hammersmith the "wrong" platforms are used occasionally during service disruption).
